Bus Accident

Every day parents send their children to school on a school bus with a reasonable expectation for their safety and security

Trusting in the school district that operate the school buses. Today’s school buses are now designed to be safer than passenger vehicles in preventing crashes and injuries, and together with local and state laws, and enhanced federal guidelines, parents are right to have a presumption of protection for their children.Sadly, accidents happen, and their children can be injured or killed as a result of a school bus accident.

No matter how a child is injured

No matter how a child is injured in the course of transportation to and from school, a school bus accident can be devastating for the child and their family. The school bus accident attorneys at Action Legal Group understand the pain and suffering a child may endure and the emotional toll it takes on parents, and are experts in the complex issues involved in bringing claims for compensation and justice.

According to the American School Bus Council there are over 450,000 school buses operating every school day

Transporting an average of 26 million elementary and secondary students, making the school bus industry the largest form of mass transit in the United States. With the volume of school-aged children transported, the school transportation industry is one of the most regulated, with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) mandated by Congress to issue and enforce strict guidelines for higher levels of safety performance. Based on overall design and safety regulations, students are 70 times more likely to arrive at school safely when taking a school bus. Unfortunately, with the best of safety protocols in place, children can be severely injured or killed in a school bus accident.

In a 2017 School Transportation Traffic Safety Facts published report from the NHTSA, key findings included that from 2006 – 2015 there were an average of 131 fatalities per year in school transportation-related crashes, and of the children injured or killed in a school bus accident:

  • 45% – Occupants of another vehicle
  • 18% – Occupants of school bus
  • 37% – Non Occupants: pedestrian, cyclist
